The Horse & Jockey has been around since the early 1800s but in 2009 it saw a massive transformation under the then new owner Peter Dalton. The new owners oversaw a complete refurbishment of the pub inside and out. The bar was relocated central to the pub. The terrace on The Green was transformed, with heated and lit canopied tables, neat rows of planters and hanging baskets galore. The terrace was further enhanced with a new glass canopy in 2011. Most significantly an extensive food operation was introduced with a new restaurant dining room offering full table service. The refurbishment also saw a return to real ale with a new cellar dedicated to ale. October 2010 saw the launch of the pub's newly installed microbrewery, The Bootleg Brewing Company located in the base of the pub's original tower brewery. Although not accessible to the public, the old brewing vessels are still present in the tower. In 2012 the pub and brewery were sold to family brewer Joseph Holt. The brewery at the pub has been retained but the beers under the Bootleg Brewing brand are now produced at Joseph Holt's brewery in Cheetham Hill. Ownership has changed again in October 2025 with another refurbishment with no real alterations to the layout. A room on the upper floor, The Hayloft, is available for hire for private functions. Thursday evenings features entertainment from a solo singer. Monthly on the last Saturday an Artisan Market is held on the adjacent Chorlton Green.
